The official coronation of King Charles III as the monarch of the United Kingdom was celebrated on Saturday, and Russian President Vladimir Putin was the first head of state to greet the new king.
Following the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II, Charles III was solemnly proclaimed the next king of Britain by the Accession Council on Saturday, September 10. The ceremony was historically significant.
After the grand ceremony in London, Putin expressed his "sincere congratulations."
“Please receive my sincerest congratulations on your accession to the throne,” Putin said in a telegram addressed to the new king, the Kremlin said.
“I wish Your Majesty success, robust health and above all the best.”
Putin's statements are made in spite of the fact that Ukraine has received economic and military help from the West, led by the US and UK, during the conflict between Russia and that country.
