Over 200 terrorists were neutralized in the North East over the past two weeks, including five prominent Boko Haram/Islamic of West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders. These three additional abducted Chibok girls, together with their children and 19 others, were freed by Operation Hadin Kai troops.
On Thursday, September 8, 2022, in Abuja at the biweekly press briefing on the operational activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies from the various operational theatres across the six geopolitical zones of the country, Major General Musa Danmadami, Director, Defence Media Operations, made this statement.
The achievement, according to Danmadami, was documented in a number of land and air interdictions at the outskirts of different communities and villages in Borno and Yobe States.
He claimed that during one operation, the military killed 52 terrorists, detained 14 more, and freed three Chibok girls who had been kidnapped: Jinkai Yama, Falmata Lawal, and Asabe Ali.
He claims that they were saved along with their kids and 19 other kidnappees at various locations.
556 alleged BH/ISWAP terrorists and their families, including 115 adult males, 189 females, and 252 children, he claimed, surrendered to their own soldiers at various locations throughout the time period under consideration.
He said that in Borno State's Kukawa, Dikwa, Bama, Kaga, Monguno, Guzamala, Konduga, Gwoza, and Mafa Local Government Areas, as well as Yobe State's Gujba Local Government Area, "troops of Operation HADIN KAI conducted operational activities in the borders of several villages and communities."
"During the raids, soldiers killed 52 alleged members of Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province and detained 14 militants. Additionally, troops found two unexploded grenades, twelve AK-47 rifles, three FN rifles, five AK-47 magazines, one automatic grenade launcher, one hand grenade, one anti-personnel mine, 86 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, sixteen bows and arrows, seven bicycles, and ten cell phones.
Additionally, three other abducted Chibok girls, serial numbers 3, 20, and 24, who were on the list of abducted Chibok girls, Jinkai Yama, Falmata Lawal, and Asabe Ali, were also freed by forces.
In a similar incident, on September 3, 2022, Operation Hadin Kai's land and air component launched a coordinated attack on known terrorist strongholds at Gabchari in Borno State's Bama Local Government Area, killing all of the terrorists inside when their strongholds were bombarded.
"The land component cleaned up the fleeing militants while the air strike neutralized a significant portion of the insurgents. More than 200 terrorists were neutralized, including 5 high-profile commanders, according to feedback from a variety of sources.
In addition, 556 suspected Boko Haram/Islamic State of West Africa Province terrorists and their families—115 adult males, 189 ladies, and 252 children—reported to local soldiers at various points.
While the captured terrorists and their families are being profiled for potential further action, "all apprehended individuals and recovered goods have been handed over to the relevant authority."
